IT
I have worked in IT for the last 12 years and have also been a contracted IT ‘fix-it’ person. Many of my customers are initially surprised to see a woman turn up and fix their computer problems.
Over the past few years my interest in website design has grown. I believe that the important facets of website design are from the customer’s point of view; those actually viewing the website. An ease of navigation, clean-looking and conveying the information necessary are those points that a website needs to have. Some of the websites I have done are:
PRESENTING
I pride myself on my ability to present in front of others. Because of my expertise in IT and being a woman in the field, I have been asked to present in schools to show them that IT can be a promising career where a girl can flourish yet still be interested in the same things many girls are; fashion, fitness and music. I also have an interest in journalistic presenting, particularly for fashion, lifestyle, fitness and music. I actively take part in encouraging girls to take IT at school, and as you will see on the home page, I have been part of a book called Tech Girls are Chic! (Not Just Geek). This has been a tremendous honour, and is a fun and funky book to show that real women work in IT! The book was launched on the 8 March 2008. The pictures below are from the launch night, and show the authors of the book, and one represents the typical kind of image that can be portrayed, but shows that infact, us girls in IT are chic!
MODELLING
I started out modelling, and now still do the odd shoot here and there when I get time - so it really does prove that anyone can do IT!
FITNESS
I'm a qualified personal trainer and pilates instructor, and teach whenever I can, along with having my own workout most days.
